Joe got his start in racing, driving the harness races for his father back in Sydney, Nova Scotia. In 1956 he decided to move to Toronto. With hurricane Hazel as his welcoming committee he almost headed back to the east coast. Thankfully he didn't as he began racing with the hobbies in 1962 and was always a prime contender in the points standings. His car is #40 otherwise known as "The Tramp" is a '47 Merc powered by a 263 Merc Flathead. His car was originally built for George McLeod but the car wouldn't handle for George so the owner Bobby Freckleton sold it to Joe. Since then Joe had it handling like a dream. |
