George McLeod

George raced for 18 years, starting in 1959. Originally he raced a jalopy and then raced hobby cars except for 1961, when he raced a super modified for one year. In 1959 he drove a Dodge that cost $12. It was owned by 4 partners, but he was the only driver. He drove the Dodge for a year and then he changed to a Ford and always drove a Ford after that. The first year he was at the CNE there would have been about 75 cars at the track every race and feature winners received about $25. In the late 60's his wife Sandy drove his car in the powderpuff races and won seven out of eight races. She was beaten by one of the regular drivers who put a wig on and competed against the women. George really enjoyed his racing years and particularly the family involvement. His son-in-law, Ron Easton been involved with the hobby club for 23 years and drives the 00 Chevy coach.
