Rich races for 23 years, starting in the early 1950's. All of his race cars were Fords. Sometimes he took his hobby car and raced it against B cars and late models at Wasaga Beach and Sutton. He says he couldn't beat the late models, but he would be in the race. He considers himself to be the last person to change over from an eight cylinder flat head to a six cylinder 240 engine. In 1976 Richard injured his arm in an accident at Flamboro Speedway, which finished his racing career. He won the hard luck award that year and continued to participate with the club doing the line ups for a number of years. |
