It is with great sadness that we announce long time CVM member Keith Barton has passed away on March 24th, 2018. Keith started racing on 1963, racing one season. The return season was cut short as his two boys filled his engine with sand out of their sandbox. Keith returned in 1967 after buying the #84 Mr. Magoo car from Dave Mitchell, racing that car until 1974 when during the winter of 74 he built a ‘29 Ford coupe into what was known as Thud. He raced Speedway Park on Fridays and Flamboro on Saturday during that time, he won five features in a row, willing eleven features that year. Racing until 1979 when he moved to Montréal where his heart remained in racing, especially the hobby club. Keith served on the committee for numerous years while racing, also winning many of the club awards such as, most sportsman driver and the Bob Clint awards.
He returned in 1984 racing for two years then giving the car to his son Stephen while his other son, Brian, raced his own car. He later owned a ROC modified having Ron Easton and his son Chuck drive it, later driven by Larry Jackson. For the last two years he has enjoyed watching his grandson, Jeremy race. Keith will always be remembered as a true sportsman, among his fellow drivers and a true competitor. His spirit will be missed this year, and many years to come at the trade.
We will inform everyone of funeral details when they are finalized.
