Entering the 2018 season, the 16 year veteran had big hopes of finally claiming that elusive championship after finishing runner up in 2012, 2015 and 2016. The season got off to great start as Steve was able to claim the opening feature of the season at Delaware Speedway, disaster would strike with 5 laps remaining in feature 2 as the engine would let go. After spending a week looking at options, the team was ready to sit out the season due to a lack of funding, at the last minute a fellow competitor purchased the team an engine to keep their championship hopes alive. With the new power plant, Steve went on to claim another 6 feature wins. Heading into the last race of the season, Steve trailed fellow rival TJ Marshall by just 1 point. After a daring move to the outside of TJ in the first feature, Steve was able to tie the points and went on to win the second feature and claimed his first ever championship.
In total, Steve claimed 7 feature wins, 15 top 3’s and 16 top 5 finishes. He also claimed the Mid-Season and End-Season championships.
