Electrifying Night
On Saturday, June 18th the Young Driver's Canadian Vintage Modifieds returned to Flamboro Speedway for night #5 of the 2022 season. With a third of the season complete the racing has been tight, we've had surprise winners and some unfortunate accidents. The racing has been some of the best I've seen in recently and we only expect it to only get better as the season continues to ramp up.
In the first feature it was the #44 of Connor Ross and the #14 of Scott Tonelli starting on the front row with the #7 of Quintin Murdoch and the #5 of Mike Podd behind them. On the opening lap the field of cars got through turn one and two cleanly and the #14 of Tonelli pulled down the outside of Ross getting into turn three bringing along the #5 of Mike Podd. Tonelli held onto the top spot for a few laps before Podd was able to make a pass on him in turn three bring along the #15 of T.J Marshall. Podd would go on to win the race with T.J Marshall finishing second and Scott Tonelli came home third after a hard hit from the #8 of Ricky Willigar who was running third at the time made contact with the outside wall after what appears something broke in the right front.
As the teams got ready for the second feature of the night. Teams were busy making adjustments and making sure their cars were ready. As the drivers rolled out for their second feature Scott Tonelli pulled off the track in turn 1 and two and very slowly made his way over by the safety teams. Later found out the an hard bar bolts snapped. When the green flag flew it was Connor Ross and Rodney Rutherford on the front row for feature number two. Rodney jumped out to an lead bringing a long with the Marshall and Murdoch. Wasn't long till Marshall made his way around Rutherford. Rodney shut the door on the #7 of Murdoch and was able to keep Murdoch at bay for the 20 lap feature. When the checkered flag flew on the feature it was the #15 of T.J Marshall taking home the victory and the overall win for the day. Rodney Rutherford and Quintin Murdoch rounded out the podium for the race.
Our next race is this Saturday and it's " Meet the Driver's Night" at intermission. Come on out and meet your favourite Young Driver's Canadian Vintage Modified drivers. Our drivers will be handing out hero cards, candy and other goodies.
